Health & Saftey Manager, Robert Doma recently joined various members of the Intercruises team in St Nazaire, France, for the Annual Groundhandler Conference organized by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
Over the course of four days, the Intercruises’ team had the chance to listen to various RCCL speakers as they explored and discussed numerous operational matters, and was later given an exclusive tour of the cruise line’s latest ship “Symphony of the Seas.”
Besides the usual operational topics, RCCL also provided three training programs focusing on certain areas of Health & Safety, covering disability awareness, major geopolitical trends and incident management. Following last year’s conference, Intercruises has since exchanged “lessons learned” documents with RCCL on various incidents, including the attacks in Barcelona in 2017.
During the event, Robert Doma had a follow-up meeting with RCCL’s Intelligence and Threat Assessment Lead, Joel Rodriguez, who had previously spoken to Ramon Hurtado at Seatrade Cruise Global 2018 in Fort Lauderdale. The main purpose of this meeting was to come to some agreement on which steps to take together in the future regarding security.
“Joel had mentioned to Ramon that security capabilities was going to be one of the most important criteria when choosing suppliers for RCCL in the future. This conference gave me the opportunity to discuss their future strategy and align it with our priorities for the coming year. As a result, both RCCL and Intercruises agreed to focus more on security, and to create a security-awareness training program as a first step in order to stay proactive. We will develop the material with the help of RCCL and hope to finalize it soon.” – Robert Doma, Health & Safety Manager
