Simon O’Sullivan, Director Northern Europe, provides an update on some of the key activities happening in the UK & Ireland, the Netherlands & Belgium, and Denmark, Norway & Sweden during the high season.
Increasing Capacity: A key focus this year has been further optimizing our operations to support an increase in guest shorex participation. This has included working closely with suppliers to ensure we are fully utilizing vehicles and asking venues to increase their opening hours to make an AM/PM tour split possible.
Year Round AIDAprima: Calling in Southampton, UK, every Monday and in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, every Thursday. Our teams in both ports are handling up to 2,000 guests per day, including over 1,000 on the five-hour round trip between Southampton and London. Initially, there were not enough German speaking guides, but we have partnered with a local company to train guides just to handle these calls, which has been a success and much appreciated by AIDA.
Double Deutsch in Southampton: We had AIDAprima and TUI Mein Schiff 4 calling in Southampton on the same day – 65% tour participation; almost 4,000 guests, requiring 84 coaches and almost all German-speaking guides from the area; a nice challenge and well handled by our team.
Triple Call – Handling High Volume in a Small Port: In Edinburgh, Scotland, we had Vision of the Seas, Zuiderdam and Aegean Odyssey on the same day, occupying all berths and anchorage in the destination. Our team successfully organized 55 guides and coaches in a destination far from accustomed to this type of volume on a single day.
Edinburgh Military Tattoo, August: Scotland’s biggest and most popular spectacle, and one of the great visual and musical events in the world. Taking place in an ancient, historic setting, on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, located high above the skyline of the oldest and most popular part of the city, perched on an extinct volcano some 135m above sea level. We have prepaid and are holding nearly 4,000 tickets for this event, a commitment we make to our cruise line clients to ensure their guests can enjoy this stunning festivity. We organise both standard attendance, right through to VIP experiences, including dinner in the Castle Gatehouse and a drinks reception in the Royal Gallery. This is one of the major events of the year for Intercruises Northern Europe.
Voyage Of Antiquity ship Odyssey was in the UK from June 29th until August 22nd with a total of five turns with one turn in Greenock and the rest in Tilbury. First full season we had them in the UK. Amazing work done by the team as this small cruise line has very high standards with few tours and transfers.
AzAmazing Event: Intercruises is “Lords of the Dance” in Dublin: The UK & Ireland team delivered a “Lord of the Dance” performance when they organized an AzAmazing Event in Dublin.
The team hosted the Azamara Journey in the Irish capital for a night of dancing and music – with the world famous troupe Riverdance, delivering an exclusive performance at the historic Gaiety Theatre.
Intercruises’ New Muse: We had the inaugural of the new ship Silversea Muse in Southampton on September. The call was attended by my colleague Jacquie Baxter and we organized few transfers to join the ship over the two days. We provided check-in and transfer arrangements for the Press and travel agent events.
Hands on with Grabba: The UK team has been doing great work with Fred Olsen Cruise line. Since Fred Olsen introduced their new check-in system (The Grabba – new automatic check-in system on a small device like an iPad Mini) this year, our Dover team – who were the first to implement & master it – are smashing the check-in record with a rating of 94.13%. See below the email of thanks to the Dover team!
“Good morning Kath, just a quick note to say a massive thank you for your assistance with driving forward our guest experience at check in and also for disembarkation. As you can see we scored a massive 94.13 % satisfaction for the check in and embarkation and a very respectable 91.65 % satisfaction for Disembarkation. Please pass on my sincere thanks to all involved.”
Celebrity President’s Cruise: An evening of Irish Music, Song & Dance: Taking place at the Round Room in Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Intercruises organized a Celebrity Signature Event, which was also attended by Lisa Lutoff Perlo, Celebrity Cruises President. The evening included an address from the Lord Mayor of Dublin and a private performance from Irish Dreams – a collection of some of the best Irish musicians and dancers in the world. Intercruises worked with the venue, the mayor’s officials, cruise line team, and performers, coordinating the event for guests, as well as laying on all transportation and escorts.
A huge congratulations to the UK team for all their efforts and hard work!
