“Tourism is a priority for our government and the cruise industry is a priority for our ministry”, said Elena Kountoura, Greek Tourism Minister, as she attended Seatrade Cruise Global 2017 in Fort Lauderdale. The day prior to making this statement the minister was at the Intercruises Party after being invited by Dimitris Bekos and Aggelos Frantzetis from the Intercruises Greece team.
During the week of Seatrade Cruise Global, the Intercruises Greece team facilitated introductions between the minister and some of the cruise industry’s most senior figures, including successful meeting with senior management from the world’s largest cruise groups, which have paved the way for meetings with the Director of the Ministry’s office, in which Intercruises will be directly involved.
This is not the first time Intercruises Greece has supported the ministry and during the last year has provided cruise industry information and advice, as well as joining them in a successful presentation to a cruise line in order to secure new home-porting opportunities in the Greek Islands.
“We describe ourselves as ‘Your Local Partner Worldwide’ and it is important that everyone understands that this means partnering with all stakeholders involved in delivering a successful operation, whether it be the cruise line, tourism ministry, local authorities or port operators. We all have an important role to play in growing the cruise industry and I am honored to be able to help the minister and her team.” Said Dimitris Bekos, Intercruises National Manager Greece.
Elena Kountoura and her team have successfully overseen a steady growth in tourism in Greece during the last two years, with 2017 arrival estimates currently at 30 million.
